Sorry, We didn’t Like the Ryder Cup

We believe in the honour of the game and playing to win, but by your ‘best’ golf being better than their ‘best’ golf. I don’t think that is what the Ryder Cup delivered.

If you saw the end, it was far more relief than joy. It doesn’t diminish the result, an away win was historic. However, as some of the commentary suggested, it was not the greatest showcase of the game. The noise was loud, often too loud. The passion of the home crowd went way ,way too far. Players looked relieved to get off the course.

The greatest part, the smallest, yet the biggest piece, was whilst the mayhem around Bryson and Justin, as they walked off having had their disagreement. Scottie’s caddie, Ted Scott, was livid he had been pushed, and the crowd were verciferous in the fervour for a confrontation.

The quietest, yet loudest, voice was Tommy Fleetwood’s caddie, Ian “Fino” Finnis. At 6ft 7in and a ‘scouser’ to boot, he could quite easily have added to the furore, however, as far as I could see, he was the calmest, with the line… “let’s just play the game”… this we like.

Well done Fino, we have never met, but as far as we are concerned, you get it.

The power of quiet in the malestrom, the sound of RORS above the noise. The nuance of the game, is actually that the noise in your own mind, is more powerful [or destructive] than the external noise.

We love the game, we love to Play. It. As. It. Lies.
