US Open | more loud noise, please stop
So more noise, more partisan crowds in New York, but this time against an American player, very odd. You would have thought that, as UK players had won the first two majors, the crowds would have been desperate to have a US winner, which they were, but they were desperate to have the US winner they wanted.
Again, not great visuals for golf. What has happened to valuing great play. Ok, so Wyndham Clark has not necessarily been the most popular (ask Oakmont members), but he has been contrite and realised that he was out of order. But there seems to no allowance, the mob has decided and the mob rules.
We love that the majors have brought in a #code of conduct for the players, and Sergio was the first to get the warning at the Masters (second tee) and Joaquin Niemann the 2 shot penalty for his javelin efforts, which he accpeted very graciuosly. Long may this continue, but do we need a code of conduct for fans, and how would it be enforced?
Awaiting #TheOpen and the crowds desperate for #TommyLad to win on his home turf, as are we by the way. However, I feel the crowds will be too partisan again, so we this side of the pond are not immune. Brain Harman can vouch for that. Hopefully we will be proved wrong but imagine there will be some less that subtle off putting, at the very keast there will be too many “mashed potatoes” and “get in the hole” for our liking.
We would love to see #TommyFleetwood win by playing exemplary golf, and win with his home crowd supporting him all the way, and the walk up the corridor at 18 with the crowds filling in behind. Not, because the crowds had been vile to anyone other than Tommy, so desperate were they for him to win.
Great article about crowds (behaviour) by #IainCarter on the BBC, and as always, good listen and discussion on #TCH #TheChippingForecast with #AndrewCotter and #EddiePepperell
