To LIV and Let Die… (or LIV on perhaps)
So the business model of LIV is unsustainable. No real shocks there, but is there an appetite for some kind of other tour, or is golf at risk of too much exposure?
Honestly, I (the caddymaster) have never watched more than 20 mins of LIV Tour, not really my thing. As we have mentioned before, we are not fans of the noise, but rather fans of the game itself.
So the noisy neighbour tour was never going to be our thing. However, is there a space for seeing the best players (or maybe the ones from a few years back), strutting their game, in an albeit more approachable way, round the rest of the world? Yes, I think there is.
What about a world tour (outside the US), must be 4O years of age, 54 holes in conjunction with the DP World, or other tours, with a much less disrupted stance. Perhaps the “We have LIVed Tour” Great Players, Great Golf, Great Experience for Viewers. The Champions Tour works well, but is not really played outside the US, so could this be an option?
Players who have been champions, if their game is drifting a bit, do they really want to grind week in week out? Probably not! Could they operate a hybrid model, some on the DP World and some as more of a still got it event?
I think there is room for more ‘golf’, so to speak, but not necessarily more squeezed into the very, very top echelons. The best players from current LIV will, over time, migrate back to the tours around the world, but perhaps we can still see players strutting their stuff.
